Former MLB players accused of drug trafficking | Bleacher's report

Dominican Attorney General Jean-Alain Rodriguez announced Tuesday that former MLB players Luis Castillo and Octavio Dotel would be involved in a drug smuggling and money-laundering operation.

Dotel was arrested and Castillo quoted, according to the Associated Press.

Rodriguez has called it "the biggest operation against organized crime" in the country, according to ESPN Marly Rivera. James Wagner of New York Times According to the chief prosecutor in the case, Dotel and Castillo allegedly participated in a ploy directed by Cesar "El Abusador" Peralta, still sought by the authorities.

Castillo, 43, is a three-star selection that has played for the Florida Marlins, the Minnesota Twins and the New York Mets over a 15-year professional career that has ended after the 2010 season. It is not related to the current starting pitcher of the Cincinnati Reds.

Dotel, 45, was a backup companion who played for 13 teams in 15 seasons in the MLB. He posted a 3.78 career MPM with 109 saves in 758 appearances. He appeared for the Detroit Tigers in 2013.

Both players are from the Dominican Republic.

Danny Gold Peralta, who is also wanted by the FBI and the DEA in the United States, is said to be linked to the murder of Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz at a bar in the Dominican Republic in June.

The alleged role of Dotel and Castillo in the drug trafficking and money laundering system was not immediately made public.
