All travelers to Hawaii must test negative for COVID before flying to the islands or face a mandatory 10-day quarantine period. Kauai Police said Lazar Hayward Jr., 34, and Raven Randle, 33, flew from Los Angeles on Tuesday on a direct American Airlines flight. Upon arrival at Lihue Airport, their pre-submitted COVID test results were reported by the Hawaii Safe Travels system.
Authorities believe their test results were tampered with in order to avoid quarantine, and Hayward and Randle were arrested for tampering without an oath. They were released pending an investigation by the Hawaii Attorney General’s Investigations Division and have since returned to Los Angeles.

Violation of Hawaii’s COVID travel warrants, according to the attorney general’s office, carries a sentence of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to $ 5,000, or both.
Hayward was the Minnesota Timberwolves’ first-round pick against Marquette in 2010. He only played one season for the Timberwolves, averaging 3.8 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. He was traded to Oklahoma City in 2011 and played one more season, still with Minnesota, before retiring in 2013.
