Former NFL scout predicts commercial traffic for Eagles’ Carson Wentz | Does the projected value make sense?

The Eagles are looking for a huge payout in exchange for quarterback Carson Wentz.

While the Eagles are unlikely to hit the initial asking price of a Matthew Stafford-style package, there’s reason to believe they could land several draft picks for Wentz in a trade.

According to former Eagles and Ravens scout Daniel Jeremiah, several draft picks will likely come the Eagles’ way if they trade the quarterback.

“It will be interesting to see what the Eagles get for a Wentz trade (if that happens),” Jérémie tweeted on Wednesday. “My guess – future 1st and current 2nd or 3rd round pick.”

Jeremiah, now senior NFL Draft Analyst for NFL Network, still has his fingers on the league’s pulse. A 2021 Day 2 pick and 2022 first-round pick could be attractive for the Eagles, as the deal would provide an immediate return for Wentz, while extending his value to the following year.

If the Eagles decide to build around the quarterback position this offseason – and give Jalen Hurts a one-year try – they’ll want to add flair to the other positions on the depth chart. If Hurts were to weaken during their season tryout, then the Eagles would have another first-round pick to go along with the first-round pick acquired in the Wentz trade, giving them the flexibility to get on the board and catch a QB with a choice among the first 5.

Jeremy’s projection would be a kind of compromise for the Eagles. Instead of receiving an immediate first-round pick, they were talking about Wentz’s value throughout two offseason taking lesser value from the start.

While the Eagles (and fans) might wish for immediate satisfaction, the NFL faces yet another offseason hit by COVID-19. The NFL Combine has already been scrapped, so teams will have even fewer opportunities to study prospects, some of which opted out of last year’s college football season. It might be more useful to wait until next year to have a better choice, as the pandemic could end by then.

Overall, Jeremiah’s projection would be a solid comeback for the Eagles, who are still hoping for a massive win for Wentz.
