Ted Ginn Jr. calls it a career.

Ginn announced at a press conference at his alma mater Glenville High School on Friday that he was retiring from the NFL after 14 seasons in the league. He said he looked forward to spending more time with his family.

“To be the monument that I am to my city, my school, all my schools – Glenville, the State of Ohio – the community was a difficult decision, but it was a decision that had to be made”, Ginn said on Friday. “I have devoted my life and my time to football my whole life until now, and to be able to go out peacefully in joy is all I wanted.”

Selected by the Miami Dolphins with the No.9 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, Ginn caught 412 total passes for 5,742 yards and 33 touchdowns over 14 seasons with six different NFL teams. He also had 68 carries for 468 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, 262 punt returns for 2,624 yards and four touchdowns, and 307 kickoff returns for 6,899 yards and three touchdowns.

In his last season in the NFL, Ginn played six games with the Chicago Bears, catching three passes for 40 yards and returning five punts for 24 yards. He didn’t sign after the Bears released him in November.

Ginn earned more than $ 40 million during his long NFL career, according to Spotrac.

Prior to the NFL, Ginn was an electric playmaker at Ohio State. In three seasons with the Buckeyes, Ginn had 135 catches for 1,943 yards and 15 touchdowns, 28 carries for 213 yards and three touchdowns, 64 punt returns for 900 yards and six touchdowns and 38 kickoff returns for 1,012 yards and two touchdowns. Ginn still holds the Ohio State school records for career punt return touchdowns (six) and season (four).
