A former Pro Bowl offensive lineman twice said vandals had destroyed thousands of cherry trees recently planted in his California orchard.
Jeremy Newberry, who played for the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers, told the San Francisco Chronicle that he had planted more than 4,000 trees in his family's orchard in October. been destroyed.

"It would take two adult men, literally, and probably six or seven hours, to cut down those trees," Newberry told The Chronicle. "Just the time it takes to do that. It was a heartache. "
Newberry said he thought the vandals had done more than $ 30,000 worth of damage and that all those who knew knew that the family was not living in the orchard during the construction of their new home. Currently, the orchard is not powered and has no security system, according to the newspaper.
Newberry has filed a police report at the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office. He said the trees will be replanted next February.
The former offensive lineman told the paper that he was now considering sleeping in a motorhome on farmland to pay attention to any suspicious items.

"It's crazy to have to do it," he said. "It's discouraging, but we'll have to keep moving forward and not be discouraged."
