Former cast member of "Saturday Night Live," Chris Kattan, thinks he's broken his neck while he was doing a skit on the series in 2001.
Kattan, who participated in the NBC television series between 1996 and 2003, talks about the injury in a new memoir, entitled "Baby, do not hurt me: stories and scars of Saturday Night Live, "Which will be released next Tuesday.
According to Variety, he would have been injured during a parody sketch "MSNBC Investigations" on a group of children playing the role of "gold girls". At one point, Kattan was supposed to fall back, said his head hit harder than expected.
As a result, Kattan said, he began to feel pain in the neck that led him to seek treatment nearly a year later. He had five surgeries in all, two of which, he said, were paid for by NBC.
The initial incident does not seem to have stuck in anyone's memory. Variety said he asked several insiders "SNL", but none of them could remember Kattan's injury, even after contacting other coworkers to find out if they remembered it. And a spokesman for NBC told Variety that the network had no trace of injury claim.
Kattan said that he would have liked to have talked about his injury earlier "rather than remain silent because I thought it would hinder the work".
These days, he makes announcements in shows such as "The Middle" and dubbing for films like "Hotel Transylvania 2." He however stated that he was still facing limitations due to his neck injury.
"As a physical comedian, I was always afraid to wake up one day with a completely different body," wrote Kattan in his book. "This fear has become my reality. After forty-five seconds on the "SNL" scene in May 2001, my body would never be the same again. "
