Former Trump appointee arrested in Capitol riot complains about not being able to sleep in jail

Federico Guillermo Klein, a former State Department aide who was arrested Thursday for his role in the Jan.6 Capitol uprising, reportedly complained about not being able to sleep in jail.

Klein appeared for his first virtual hearing on Friday before U.S. Magistrate Zia M. Faruqui in Washington, DC, where he was told prosecutors would seek to jail him after next week’s hearing, The Washington Post reports.

“I wonder if there’s a place I can stay in detention where I don’t have cockroaches crawling all over me while I’m trying to sleep. … I mean, I really don’t. Slept a lot, Your Honor, ”Klein said at the end of the hearing, according to the Post.

He added: “It would be nice if I could sleep somewhere where there weren’t any cockroaches everywhere.”

Faruqui reportedly responded to Klein’s request by assuring him that if he encountered such problems while in Washington prison, his concerns would be taken into account.

“Alright, I appreciate that,” Klein replied, the Post reported.

Klein faces six counts, including assault, resisting or preventing certain weapons, and violent and disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds. His arrest marks the first time that a person named by Trump has faced criminal charges related to the riot.

Klein’s demands follow demands from another rioter on Capitol Hill: Jacob Chansley, known as “QAnon Shaman,” was moved to another facility last month to accommodate his organic diet.
