Former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced Monday that she is running for governor of Arkansas in 2022.
“As governor, I will defend your right to be free from socialism and tyranny,” Sanders said in his nearly eight-minute launch. video. “Our state needs a leader who has the courage to do what is right, not what is politically correct or practical.”

“With your support, I hope to be the first woman to lead our state as governor,” she continued.
The daughter of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Sanders would create something of an Arkansas political dynasty if she won. She has been widely encouraged to be led by former President Donald Trump since leaving the White House in June 2019.
“My dad always said the real test of a leader is not how you deal with problems you know to come, it comes right now in a crisis you could never foresee,” said Sanders in the video. “I was tested under fire.”
Her father, a Fox News contributor, was quick to show his support.
“A truly remarkable woman has just announced that she is running for my old job. [government] housing in which she grew up. Watch the video. Support her [with] pray [and] contributions! Giddy up! »Huckabee wrote on Twitter.
Sanders is looking to replace current GOP governor Asa Hutchinson, who is barred from running for office next year. Sanders joins an expensive Republican primary that already includes two elected leaders statewide, Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge.

Sanders joined Fox News Channel as a paid on-air contributor in September 2019. A spokesperson for FOX News Media confirmed on Sunday that his contributor agreement with the network had been terminated.

Fox News previously reported that Sanders was due to announce his candidacy on Monday.
