Jeremy Pruitt would reconnect with Joe Judge on the New York Giants coaching staff for the 2021 season.

The Giants have added a notable name to their coaching staff.

Newly fired University of Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt will join the staff in a role that has yet to be revealed, according to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan. Duggan reported the news on Wednesday evening.

Pruitt was fired from Tennessee earlier this month after evidence of a recruiting violation was discovered.

It was previously reported that Pruitt was working on a deal to join Robert Saleh’s Jets staff, but it ultimately didn’t come to fruition, according to The Athletic’s Connor Hughes.

While the role has yet to be revealed, there is a chance that Pruitt will work as a defensive back coach, either as an assistant or in the lead role. Prior to his three-year stint with the Volunteers, Pruitt coached defensive backs for a number of programs, including Alabama from 2010-2012. It was there that he was previously in contact with Joe Judge, who was a teams assistant. specials for the Crimson Tide from 2009 to 2011 before his tenure at the professional level.

For now, the Giants employ Jerome Henderson as defensive back coach and Anthony Blevins as assistant defensive back coach. Still, this part of the game needs all the help it can get. The Giants were tied for 16th in the NFL with 237.9 passing yards per game even with a star like James Bradberry at the cornerback.

Pruitt also worked as an internal linebacker coach during his 2016-17 stint with Bama, which could be another option for his potential Giants role.
