Pittsburgh Steelers take first look at the QB market.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Dwayne Haskins was having a visit with the Steelers on Thursday, according to people with knowledge of the situation.

At the end of December, Haskins was eliminated by the Washington football team before the end of the season, after just 13 starts in less than two years.

The former first-round pick also visited the Carolina Panthers recently.

The Steelers surprisingly haven’t improved their QB hall in 2020, with Mason Rudolph and Josh Dobbs behind Ben Roethlisberger. With Big Ben’s future beyond this season uncertain, meeting Haskins is a first indication that Pittsburgh is on the lookout for young callers for the season ahead.

The rapid, albeit nominal, interest in Haskins underscores the latent talent of Ohio State products. A former first-round pick, the QB has a big arm that can spray the ball all over the court. However, poor mechanics and difficulty reading defenses led to inconsistent play. Off-field concerns emanating from Washington led to his release.

Haskins has talent if a club are ready to nurture the 23-year-old who needs experience and a positive coach to get his career back on track. Under Mike Tomlin, behind Big Ben, could be a positive landing point for both parties if the visit leads to a job.
