Eugene Redmond, who had been part of the faculty for 44 years, is accused of misconduct and sexual assault primarily by trainees as part of a program that he directed, among other things, undergraduate students at Yale.

Yale ordered the investigation after an undergraduate student filed a sexual misconduct complaint against Redmond in March 2018. During an internal investigation, Yale's administration had knowledge of similar complaints 24 years earlier, according to an independent report.
Incidents began in the 1990s, says report
"Our investigation revealed five credible accounts of sexual assault in a shared room, three incidents in which Redmond conducted inappropriate medical examinations and multiple other forms of sexual harassment," the report said.
The sexual assault involved male students in St. Kitts, according to the report. The incidents, which began in the 1990s, occurred when Redmond shared a room with each student after they had drunk with him, according to the report. According to the report, the trainees explained how Redmond would accept more applicants than available beds.
Police in New Haven, Connecticut and Yale contacted police in St. Kitts to report the charges against Redmond, according to a university statement. CNN solicited feedback from these law enforcement agencies.
CNN has also not been able to determine whether criminal charges have been filed against Redmond.
According to the report, the Yale School of Medicine opened a survey in 1994 after students from Redmond's summer internship program reported that he had sexually assaulted and harassed two students. Redmond was reprimanded and signed a settlement agreement that required him to cut the program, stop recruiting and supervising students in St. Kitts and abide by a separate housing policy, the report said.

But from at least 2001 until the summer of 2017, Redmond violated the settlement agreement, recruited students to work with him in St. Kitts, supervised them outside working hours and continued to do so. to sleep his students in his bedroom, as he had already done. before he is reprimanded, according to the report.

Redmond retired in July 2018 during disciplinary proceedings. He was banned from campus and was denied the benefits of a retired faculty member, the university said in a statement.
He was at the faculty of Yale School of Medicine in the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurosurgery between 1974 and 2018, according to the report.
"The behaviors in question go against all the expectations of our faculty and the trust that our students and society place in educators," said Peter Salovey, president of Yale. "On behalf of Yale, I am deeply sorry that Redmond's behavior was not stopped once and for all when it was first reported."
Yale makes several changes after the report is released, including new protocols for supervising internships and other day-to-day programs. The university is also considering additional actions based on the report's recommendations.
