The man, who was in his 50s, was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but died of his injuries shortly after 1 p.m. ET, Gollan said.
Fire crews were dispatched to the house around 10 a.m. after reports that a man “flew to the side of a residence,” Gollan said.
A passer-by told fire crews the man took off from a beach a few houses away before hitting the north side of the house, according to Gollan.
The man’s orange kite was still draped over the balconies of the house while rescue teams were on the scene.
The crews “suffered high winds and a strong thunderstorm” which moved rapidly through the area at the time of the incident, Gollan added.
