Fortnite Dev Epic Games bought abandoned mall to become their next HQ

Epic Games purchased an entire mall with the intention of turning the unused location into its new headquarters in Cary, NC.In a press release, Epic Games announced that it had purchased a Cary Towne mall. 980,000-square-foot, 87-acre center that will become Epic Games’ new campus by 2024. This includes plans to create both office buildings and recreation spaces for long-term use.

Development of the new headquarters will begin later this year and in the meantime Epic Games will remain at its current location on Crossroad Boulevard in Cary, the town of Epic Games has been based for over 20 years.“We are extremely proud that Epic has chosen to call Cary to host their new global headquarters, and we greatly appreciate the company’s recognition of Cary’s existing assets as well as the region’s unlimited potential for their growing business. Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht said in a statement.

Epic has over 50 offices around the world, handling the local and global aspects of its business. But Cary’s headquarters will serve as the company’s base of operations.Unused malls have in fact become a popular target for businesses looking to set up new offices and headquarters. Companies like Google and WeWork have converted abandoned malls across the country for office use. So if you live in Cary and are wondering what happened to this old town mall, Epic owns it.
