Fortnite is a big deal, developer and publisher Epic Games are winning somewhere close to infinite money every month thanks to high-end skins and a new subscription service at $ 12 (Fortnite is a ‘free’ video game, clearly), but Epic is now going to do something with all that money that doesn’t involve funding bizarre and deaf attack ads against Apple. As reported by Deadline, the company supports an animated film by Latin American animation studio Hook Up and Argentine production companies DuermeVela and FilmSharks through its $ 100 million Epic MegaGrants program. Rather than a Fortnite movie about the banana guy and Travis Scott (the two most famous Fortnite characters) battling an army of teenagers far better at gaming than them, the project will actually be an original film based on The epic of Gilgamesh. The film is just one of the recipients of this important grant.

Deadline says the movie will be released in Spanish and English, and will be made with Epic’s Unreal Engine – so don’t be surprised if it looks a bit like Fortnite, although The Mandalorian also uses Unreal Engine to power its virtual assemblies. For those unfamiliar with the story of Gilgamesh, he was a figure from Mesopotamian mythology with a large thick beard who went through various heroic adventures, and his story served as the inspiration for various other mythological tales in history ( as the Iliad and Odyssey).

It’s unclear when this could happen, or if this movie will be available on Apple devices, but you’ll know it will arrive when an expensive Gilgamesh skin appears in Fortnite.
