Fortnite The Season 7 end event, Operation: Sky Fire, took players on a crazy space journey with an enthralling cliffhanger. To add to the tension, publisher Epic Games shut down the game until the start of Season 8 on Monday.
Operation: Sky Fire put players in the role of infiltrators sent to an alien mothership to bring it down with bombs strapped to its back. As the ship has descended, so are many other weird items that players won’t understand until Fortnite Season 8 begins.
Here’s everything you need to know to prepare for the operation: Sky Fire.
Why can’t I play Fortnite?
After Operation: Sky Fire, Epic shut down Fortnite for the next 13 hours. Players will have to wait until Monday, 2 a.m. PT (5 a.m. ET) to replay the game.
When did Fortnite’s Operation: Sky Fire event start?
Operation: Sky Fire started 1 p.m. Pacific time / 4 p.m. Eastern time to Sunday September 12. It lasted about 12 minutes.
What is Operation: Sky Fire?
According to Epic, the players “join an attack team and sneak aboard the mothership to deliver IO’s final message to the alien invaders,” concluding the storyline that has spanned the entire season.
When the event began, players were teleported to the mothership with special backpacks. Inside, they discovered that parts of the island were being sucked into the ship. While players were locked in the ship, the giant pink cube rolled out of the ground game, referred to as “Kevin” by the Fortnite community. The mystery cube was a plot point for several seasons in the first chapter of Fortnite.
Energy started to shoot from “Kevin” killing other players, but she apparently ran out of juice and fell asleep. That’s when players realized they were just pawns as their backpacks turned into bombs. However, one by one, they started to reboot “Kevin” by turning him blue. Before the bomb exploded, players then saw that other cubes had also been restarted. After a flash of lightning, the mothership was a floating wreck and several “Kevins” began to fall on the island. A piece of wreckage hits the player and the “To be continued …” screen appears.
When does season 8 start?
Fortnite Season 8 will begin Monday at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). What will change after this event is still a mystery.
