Forza Horizon 5 PC specs revealed

While Forza Horizon 5 may be exclusive to the Xbox platform, compatibility between Microsoft’s consoles and its Windows operating system means PC gamers can participate as well. With that in mind, Playground Games has now revealed the hardware requirements for a PC to work. Forza Horizon 5.

Forza Horizon 5 has been the talk of the town lately, and for good reason. Scheduled for November 9, the fifth installment of the series sees the Horizon festival settle in Mexico.

With major improvements to the in-game vehicle audio, 11 unique biomes, and a map roughly 50% larger than the previous game, FH5 has a lot to do. It’s slated to launch on the Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles, taking advantage of new hardware from the ninth generation machines, but PC gamers have been left in the dark – until now.

The minimum hardware specifications for FH5 are rather relaxed. You won’t need anything more modern than a 2014 Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 model, or a 2016 Radeon RX 470 if you’re using AMD GPUs. In terms of processors, anything sleeker than a Ryzen 3 or Intel i5-4460 will do just fine.

While that shouldn’t come as a surprise given that the game will also run on the Xbox One – itself based on 2013 mid-tier tech – so most modern machines should run the title with relative ease. While it’s not possible to turn all the eye candy up to 11, PC gamers will get into the game without having to worry about taking out a second mortgage.

The recommended specs see the processor move to a 4-core, 8-thread processor for AMD and a 6-core, 6-thread processor for Intel. Both GPUs also make a huge leap from minimum specs, with a doubling of VRAM and system memory.

This will bring you into some decent territory for FH5, although you have to tailor it to the ideal spec for the best experience – and this is where things get interesting and a little scary.

The Ryzen 7 3800XT and i7-10700K are 8-core, 16-thread processors for AMD and Intel, respectively. Video cards leap even bigger compared to the current generation AMD Radeon RX 6800XT and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080. Both GPUs will allow PC gamers to play FH5 at 4K with all bells and whistles turned on.

However, anyone currently in the market for a new video card knows that it is nearly impossible to find one at MSRP, due to the continuing shortage of silicon. Storage requirements are 110 GB, with the ideal specification going for an SSD for faster load times.

There are only 40 days left until the global release of Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles, and Windows 10 PCs on November 9. Those kicking off for the Premium Edition will get their hands on the game four days early on November 5.
