Four young girls were arrested Saturday in the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old girl at a Louisiana Walmart, authorities said.
The girls, aged 12 to 14, were involved in a fight with the older victim at the Lake Charles store, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook on Sunday.
The victim died at a local hospital.
One of the suspects has been charged with second degree murder, authorities said. The other three face a principal charge for second degree murder.
The sheriff of the parish of Calcasieu, Tony Mancuso, denounced the violence.
“This is the third homicide in six months involving minors between the ages of 11 and 16,” Mancuso said, according to WWL-TV.
“They come from all walks of life, all races. I have a feeling that we have a problem in our community that we are going to have to face and solve.
Mancuso pleaded for help from parents in the community.
“I ask you tonight that our parents take control,” Mancuso said, the outlet reported.
“It’s not something we can stop ourselves from,” he said. “I just don’t feel like it’s a police matter. It is a parental problem. “
