Four Liverpool players who could leave in January to raise millions

Never before has there been such a short time between two transfer windows for Liverpool.

Just 87 days after the summer market closed – let alone the National Lower League deadline – the January window has been opened.

Jurgen Klopp has traditionally done little business in the New Year, except for the much-needed arrival of Virgil van Dijk in 2018 and the opportunistic run for Takumi Minamino last year.

Indeed, Liverpool are unlikely to make any major signings this month, although that approach could change if circumstances change regarding other injury issues, particularly at the center-back.

Spending was also minimal in January under Klopp, although there were notable departures of Philippe Coutinho in 2018 and Dominic Solanke 12 months later.

And although Liverpool are not actively looking to move any of their squad this month, the Premier League champions could find their resolve tested if there are players who arouse interest.

Divock Origi (£ 20m)

Liverpool are very happy that the Belgian continues to stay and compete for a first-team spot for the remainder of the campaign.

The club, however, recognize Origi’s long-term service and won’t stand in their way if a suitable offer prompts the Reds to stage a departure.

Wolverhampton Wanderers, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are among a number of reported potential contenders, with the forward having only made eight appearances this season and playing just eight minutes in the Premier League.

Origi’s exit would free up additional non-local space in the Liverpool squad, which could be needed in the event of a foreign signing.

Xherdan Shaqiri (£ 20million)

Shaqiri was apparently in the process of leaving Anfield in October when he was left out of the Carabao Cup draw against Arsenal amid interest from two clubs.

The Swiss, however, ultimately opted to stay put and were instantly rewarded with a first-team opportunity that prompted match-change contributions against West Ham United and FC Midtjylland.

However, another injury – the story of the midfielder’s move to Liverpool – ruled him out for seven weeks before his recent return to action.

Shaqiri hopes to have a role to play in the second half of the season. However, a large offer for his services could make Liverpool consider making money.

Liam Millar (£ 3M)

Millar was due to leave on loan during the summer transfer window with Stoke City, Queens Park Rangers and Rotherham among several linked Championship clubs.

Instead, the 21-year-old has been in sparkling form for the Under-23s, scoring twice and assisting another goal in the EFL Trophy and assuming the captain’s armband in recent weeks in Premier League 2.

The Canada international has spent periods on loan at Scottish side Kilmarnock over the past two seasons, and another temporary departure looks perhaps the most likely deal this month.

Yasser Larouci (£ 2m)

Liverpool had wanted to sell Larouci over the summer after it became clear that the 20-year-old was refusing to sign a new deal.

Larouci, who was among the Reds who won the FA Youth Cup in 2019, made his first-team breakthrough last season.

However, injury concerns have meant the left-back has only made two Premier League 2 outings for U23s this season.

Liverpool raised £ 7million in 2019 with the sale of Rafa Camacho – who also turned down a contract with 12 months remaining on his current deal with the Reds – but, with just six months remaining, Larouci would now only order one fraction of that amount.
