Fox News has confirmed that it has no plans to hire Rep. “No one at any level of authority has had conversations with Matt Gaetz for any of our platforms, and we have no interest in hiring him,” the network said in a statement.
The statement was released after an article in The Daily Beast on Wednesday that Gaetz was speaking with people from Fox News, One America News Network and Newsmax about possible jobs. Axios first reported on Tuesday that Gaetz was considering stepping down from Congress and possibly working at Newsmax.
Fox’s statement also follows news that Gaetz is the subject of a Justice Department investigation into alleged sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old girl.
Gaetz has denied the charges, saying they were part of a plot to extort money and harm him politically. He explained the program in detail on Tuesday, in a bizarre interview with Fox News. OAN could not be reached for comment, and a Newsmax spokesperson told The Hill the company was not commenting on “talks about talent or future programming plans.”
However, according to The Daily Beast, sources said Gaetz was unlikely to get a job at Newsmax. In addition, he reported, OAN founder and CEO Robert Herring also doesn’t seem interested in the idea.
“Right now, I’m not really hiring anyone for talk shows,” Herring said. “I think he’s a great congressman, and I said [that ‘somebody’] to tell him to stay there. That’s what I want Congressman Gaetz to do.
