First preview of the transformation of actress Ariana DeBose into "Anita" from the next remake of the classic musical by Steven Spielberg West Side Story is out.

An adaptation of the original Broadway hit, West Side Story explores the young love and tensions between rival Jets and Sharks gangs on the streets of 1957 in New York. The film is currently in production for Twentieth Century Fox and The Walt Disney Studios with a release scheduled for 2020.

The cast includes Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (Maria); Ana Isabelle (Rosalia); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); Brian d'Arcy James (Krupke officer); Curtiss Cook (Abe) and Rita Moreno, winner of an Academy Award, the original "Anita" in the early 60s version of the story. She plays Valentina in the update and is also part of the executive producers of the film.

West Side Story produced and directed by Steven Spielberg from screenwriter and award-winning Pulitzer playwright Tony Kushner. The film was adapted to the screen by the original 1957 Broadway musical, written by Arthur Laurents on a music by Leonard Bernstein, on lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and on a concept, direction and choreography by Jerome Robbins.

Justin Peck, winner of the Tony Award, will choreograph the musical numbers of the film. Kevin McCollum, winner of a Tony Award, and Kristie Macosko Krieger, Oscar nominated producer, are also leading the production.

The film's musical team includes conductor Gustavo Dudamel, who will conduct the recording of Bernstein's iconic score; David Newman (Anastasia), an Oscar-nominated composer and orchestral conductor, will organize the score for the new adaptation; Tony Award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (Broadway's Fun Home and Thoroughly Modern Millie) will work with the singing actors. and Grammy-nominated music supervisor Matt Sullivan (Beauty and the Beast, Chicago), who will assume the role of Executive Producer for the film.
