ATLANTA – A performance of “HAMILTON” at the Fox Theater was canceled at the last minute after COVID-19 test results did not return on time.

Representatives said the show was canceled after delays in COVID-19 test results prevented the tour company from delivering the show in a safe manner for the cast and crew on stage.

Fans who had tickets to Wednesday night’s performance say they were lining up in the rain waiting to be allowed into the theater. The ushers came out later and told them the show had been canceled.

“We were very disappointed because we thought people were originally joking when they said it was canceled, but it turns out to be true,” said Abigail Flowers, from Auburn, in Alabama, to see the show.

For many fans, they have been waiting for the performance for almost two years. These shows have already been rescheduled from dates in 2020 which were put on hiatus due to the pandemic.

“Well, I bought the ticket two years ago, and it’s really upsetting that they canceled the event not even half an hour ago,” said Madison Jajczyk who drove from South Carolina for the show.

Others were frustrated with the communication.

“They could have let us know there was a problem before we stood in the rain for 45 minutes,” said Tara Sandler.

The theater says Wednesday’s canceled performance will be postponed until next week. Ticket holders must keep their tickets until then.

If they are unable to attend the rescheduled performance, refunds and exchanges will be available.

All future performances of ‘HAMILTON’ are expected to go as planned.
