Qwant completely rethinks its interface

Created in 2013, the search engine "respects your privacy" gets a facelift and reveals its version 4.

In a post dated July 4, Qwant's team says it finally puts his updated design. As a reminder, the last major change occurred during the implementation of the version in April 2015. More than three years later, it was logical that the search engine offers a new interface more modern. In addition, the first definitive version of Qwant was released on July 4, 2013, exactly five years ago, a symbolic date that made sense to celebrate.

Rethinking Design and User Interface, Qwant explains that it relies on several tests allowing him, for example, to draw heat maps from the elements that attract the eye of the user. Following multiple badyzes, the search engine has chosen to abandon its three traditional columns (Web, news and social networks). Nevertheless, categories always appear in a smaller section on the left of the screen. It brings together categories Web, news, social networks, but also images, video and shopping.

Qwant is also keen to highlight the Instant Answers, which offer "richer and more immediate interactions". The search engine also encourages its users to contribute to the development of Wikipedia by offering them a new button that explains the procedure: "Learn how to enrich the encyclopedia Wikipedia."

Small novelty # Ethics which I I'm proud of the design of @Qwant_EN : we now encourage our users to contribute to Wikipedia, so as not to remain in a role of simple "consumer" of the collaborative encyclopedia. @ Pyb75 @Calimaq @Wikimedia #OpenKnowledge pic.twitter.com/RO5KDf7JLm

particular themes such as music or sport are promoted by means of "double navigation" giving access to news and options described as "contextual".

In general, the interface and the user experience tend to be simplified in order to highlight the content appearing on the pages of the search results. Many did not appreciate very much the principle of the three columns, a point which can now be considered as settled. Version 4 has also been adapted for mobile and now offers search results as an independent map.
