Farmers denounce for decades the unfair competition from products imported from countries where the cost of labor is more advantageous. The Confédération paysanne calls for the introduction of minimum prices for these imported fruits and vegetables.

Representatives of the Confédération paysanne traveled yesterday to the National Interest Market (MIN) in Agen-Boé, to present the producers present a measure that the union intends to defend, and place in the public debate: the introduction of a minimum price for agricultural products imported into France.

The subject is widely known by the public authorities and the population: it consumes in our country of fruits and vegetables produced outside our borders, and wage costs on which French producers can not align. Competition is therefore distorted, as it is also on the use or not of treatments that we consider to be harmful to the environment.

The case is – unfortunately – heard: the competition is " unfair trade ", but the principle of free trade prevailing in the open economic space that is Europe has never found a solution to this problem, which" destroys French agriculture ", explains one to the Confédération paysanne (an opinion shared by all the agricultural unions)

The "conf" went yesterday to the MIN of Agen, and in the crates, she noticed how much the tomato, the nectarine, the peach … Spanish, Italian or Portuguese flourished in Lot-et-Garonne …

"It's been years since the problem of distortion of competition is mentioned, but nothing moves, says Emmanuel Aze, spokesman for the Confederation Paysanne 47. So we want a measure of protectionism to be is established, via a minimum price below which a fruit or a vegetable can not be sold in France. Competition will be finally loyal with French products. And exporting producers will be better paid. In fact, what we defend is a solidarity-based protectionist logic. We must stop this war between the peasants of Europe. "

Tomorrow in Paris

The representatives of the Confédération paysanne received an excellent welcome from the producers present yesterday at the MIN. Today, they will go to the Chateaurenard market in the Bouches-du-Rhône (one of the biggest in France) to preach the good word as well. Tomorrow Wednesday, they will be in Paris, Place de la Republique, for a sale of apricots, tomatoes and other aubergines at "remunerative prices". This sale is only an excellent opportunity to interact with the general public, and begin to disseminate this idea of price floor.

"We believe that successive governments have defeated their responsibilities, adds Emmanuel Aze. It is therefore up to the citizen to take the hand, and to seize our proposal … "
