The World Cup and high temperatures have dangerously lowered the blood donation, said the French Blood Establishment, which launched Tuesday, July 17, an "emergency appeal" to rebuild the reserves.
"The mobilization of donors has (…) not been sufficient to date given the hot weather and the news related to the World Cup football," wrote the EFS in a statement. "EFS is launching an emergency appeal and urges donors to move mbadively now to fixed sites and mobile blood drives to donate their blood and thus guarantee a satisfactory level of blood products", he added. Without giving figures, the public body speaks of "weak reserves".
The donation must be regular to cover the needs of patients who require a blood transfusion, whether they are sick or injured. The life span of blood products is indeed limited to five days for platelets and 42 days for red blood cells . "We need you as part of the event collections organized throughout France and in particular in the seaside resorts and in the 123 fixed sites of the EFS," said the establishment.
