The fire broke out at the premises of Soprema, a company specialized in waterproofing, insulation and roofing, and "3 000 to 3 500 m² were destroyed by the flames", according to prefecture.
A "important fire" was declared Thursday, July 19 at night in the harbor area of the banks of the Rhine in Strasbourg, without making a victim, a month and a half after the spectacular explosion of a grain silo in the same sector, announced the Bas-Rhin prefecture.
The fire, which occurred at 21:50 on the premises of the company Soprema, required the intervention of 66 machines and 131 firefighters, said the prefecture in a statement, stating that it was considered "mastered" at 3 am Friday. "No casualties are to be deplored" but "3 000 to 3 500 m² (of buildings) were destroyed by the flames" specified the prefecture.
Still according to Prefectural authorities, the establishment of Soprema – a company specializing in waterproofing, insulation and roofing – is "subject to authorization under clbadified installations for the protection of the environment (ICPE) but no 'is not clbadified as Seveso' .
Mobile dams
A security perimeter has been deployed around the site and 'badessments are under way regarding possible pollution risks and preventive measures to implement " also indicated the prefecture.
