The study of Public Health France the "Health Barometer 2016, gender and baduality, from one decade to another" was carried out before the advent of the speech liberation movements.

One in five women between the ages of 25 and 34 has had forced bad or an attempt, according to a large survey conducted in France before the advent of speech-freeing movements like #metoo and #balancetonporc. The results of this study testify to"Greater ease of reporting badual violence"said the sociologist and research director at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) Nathalie Bajos presenting Tuesday, October 23 this work of which she is coauthor. Although this does not necessarily mean, according to her, an increase in the frequency of abuse.

This study of Public Health France, the "Health Barometer 2016, gender and baduality, from one decade to another" was conducted by telephone in 2016 with a representative sample of more than 15,000 people aged 15 to 75 years.

In particular, the release of speech is much more noticeable in women than ten years earlier in the previous survey. Among 18- to 69-year-olds, 18.9% of women report that they have already been involved in attempted bad or forced bad (compared to 15.9% in 2006).

Violence before the age of 18

Among women aged 25-34, this proportion of forced relationships or attempts reaches even 21% of responses, that is, in this age group, "One in five women who report having been raped or attempted", says the sociologist. For men aged 18-69, these declarations remain at the same level (5.4% vs. 4.5%).

The first experience of this violence occurs mostly before age 18, in 47.4% of cases for women and 60.2% for men. Among 15- to 17-year-olds, 8% of young women say they have already been confronted with forced bad or forced relationship attempts against 1% of young men.

The vast majority of young people say they wanted their first report, but women are slightly less numerous than men in this case (87.6% against 92.8%). At the same time, more than one in ten women say they have given in to their partner's expectations in this first report, and nearly 2% say they have been forced to do so.

Prevention campaign

If speech is free, prevention is essential, because this violence has a significant impact on health, says Public Health France. The health agency has launched a campaign, from October to November, on its site Onbadprime.fr, for teenagers: four young people testify their experience in podcasts that end with a message reminding of the importance of speak and listen. The campaign is relayed on radio and audio platforms and social networks.

Unlike some speeches, "Sex before the age of 15 does not increase, in fact the percentage of those who start their bad life before this age is extremely stable over time and generations (6.9% for girls and 16.5% for girls). boys) ", says Nathalie Bajos. And the median age of entry into baduality has stabilized over the last ten years (17.6 years for girls and 17.0 for boys).

The modes of meeting evolve with a clear effect in certain slices in the boys. 28% of men aged 25-34 have already met a badual partner via the Internet and more than a quarter of 20-24 year olds.

The study also highlights the persistence of "Frozen representations", remarks the sociologist. "Love and tenderness" are the main reason for first intercourse for more than one in two girls aged 18-29 (compared to 25.9% for boys), while 'Desire' remains the determining motive for almost half of the boys (against 25.8% for girls).
