Gerard Collomb was re-elected at Lyon City Hall on Monday, November 5, a month after his resignation from the Ministry of the Interior and his return to the city. He won 41 votes out of 73 in a vote marked by numerous abstentions and zero votes, Agence France-Presse reported. His predecessor, Georges Képénékian, had resigned to give him the place.

Out of 73 councilors, 14 did not take part in the vote. And among the 59 voters, 10 put in the ballot box a blank ballot. The former interior minister got 41 votes against 8 to his only competitor, the centrist mayor of 2e arrondissement of the Cité des Gones, Denis Broliquier. Or a few less than his previous election in 2014.

This extraordinary meeting of the municipal council was held in the absence, noted, of the former Secretary of State for sports Thierry Braillard. Collomb's former deputy mayor at the town hall has been muddled with him since the 2017 legislative elections, for which he ran in vain for the inauguration of La République en marche (LRM).

Most of the opposition group Republicans and relatives did not take part in the vote, but former secretary of state Nicolas Sarkozy Nora Berra filed a ballot in the ballot box. The three elected Europe Ecology-The Greens, supporters of Mr. Collomb in 2014, did not vote either.

After the vote, Mr. Collomb thanked those who voted for him. "Our majority is diverse (…) we both have different sensibilities but the same desire to bring the general interest in this city ", he said. He also expressed his gratitude to his predecessor, Georges Képénékian, who gave him the place after his resignation from the government: "It is to him that I owe this reelection. "

He finally thanked David Kimelfeld, president of the metropolis of Lyon – since the departure of Mr. Collomb for Place Beauvau – who could compete for the 2020 elections, ensuring that between the two communities, here the, "There will be no difficulty working together".
