Microsoft buys the studios behind Pillars of Eternity and Wasteland

Microsoft acquires Obsidian (Pillars of Eternity) and inXile (Wasteland), we are promised RPG

At E3 2018, Microsoft sent a signal to Sony Interactive Entertainment announcing the acquisition of four studios (Playground Games, Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory and Undead Labs) and the creation of a brand new laboratory in Santa Monica (The Initiative). Indeed, the American manufacturer is aware that the lack of exclusivities on Xbox One eventually weaken the console against the PS4 which, for its part, chained. As part of the X018, the Redmond firm announced two new acquisitions: Obsidian Entertainment – which was already the subject of a number of rumors – and inXile Entertainment.

"InXile and Obsidian teams have made a name for themselves by creating deep and exciting RPGs, reads the statement. At Microsoft Studios, inXile and Obsidian will benefit from the support and freedom to carry out its creative ambitions for both existing franchises and new projects. The studios will continue their operations independently and bring their unique talents, IPs and expertise to Microsoft Studios to create new RPG experiences for our players."Without disrespecting the players who appreciate the productions of these two studios, these two purchases are less flashy than those announced in Los Angeles, but it is true that their expertise in RPG market could, why not, serve for the return of a certain Fable (in development at Playground Games, it seems.) This is only pure speculation, of course.
