The accident caused by violent storms, accompanied by strong winds, which struck the department in the afternoon, occurred in a park where this badagenarian participated in a gathering of cyclo-tourism.

In Charente, also in vigilance orange, violent hailstorms, caused significant material damage, particularly in the areas of La Rochefoucauld and Chabanais, said the prefecture in a statement in the early evening.

Corrèze and Charente were among the 31 departments of southern and central France placed on alert orange Wednesday by Weather -France because of the risk of violent thunderstorms from the afternoon.

Wednesday at midnight, only two departments, Nièvre and Saône-et-Loire, were kept in orange alert for risks of rain and flood. "The storm activity has clearly diminished" according to Meteo France.
