The lunar eclipse of July 27, of exceptional duration, will be visible everywhere in Europe. This is an event not to be missed, as it will only happen once in this century.
On July 27, you will have to look up to heaven. As long as one is placed on a clear ground, an unusual show will take place in the sky: a lunar eclipse, visible for 103 minutes in Europe. It is the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century. It will begin at 21:30 sharp and will end around midnight 20.
A spectacle observable with the naked eye
Unlike the solar eclipse, the lunar eclipse does not disappear the Moon. On the contrary, the alignment Sun, Earth, Moon (in this order) deprives the Moon of the Sun's light but the Earth's atmosphere will filter the "longer wavelength" rays (red). These will reach the Moon, explains on its website the French Association of Astronomy (AFA). Our satellite will therefore leave its gray tint for a copper color, around 22:20.
This show is visible to the naked eye in clear weather, although binoculars can allow more comfort to admire the view. The AFA website offers a map of 70 observation sites, to enjoy the show with a telescope, supervised by enthusiasts
