The scene took place Sunday, in a beach in the town of Vielle-Saint-Girons (Landes).
A 65-year-old man wanted to help his wife, struggling in the ocean and also found himself in distress, reports France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The woman was able to return to the mainland unlike the man who died despite arrival of help. The couple was in an unsupervised bathing area.
