A septuagenarian suspected of 700 shoplifting, mainly in toy stores, was arrested in Paris, announced Friday, November 2, the police headquarters.
The cause of his arrest, a complaint filed in mid-October by the head of a wooden toy store in the 17th arrondissement of Paris who had recognized 18 toys stolen from his shop on a websitewhere they were sold by an individual. The investigators then identified a woman aged 72, living in the same district.
She had published 957 listings since June to sell mainly toys, described as new and with original packaging. The alleged thief admitted to being the author of the thefts of objects which she put on sale on the internet "by idleness" according to the statement of the police prefecture. During the search of his apartment, investigators found more than 1,000 articles and 40,000 euros in cash. The investigation uncovered 700 thefts committed in six banners in the Paris region.
