Apple and Amazon bury the hatchet. After a long dispute, the two giants have agreed to offer the latest models of iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch on the platform of Amazon.
The new products will be available in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and India in the coming weeks. Some older iPhone models were already available on the Amazon platform before but through third parties, and at varying prices.
The agreement stipulates that these resellers will no longer be able to offer Apple products on Amazon. "We are constantly working to improve the consumer experience, and that means selecting products that customers want. We hope to offer the entire range of Apple and Beats, "said Amazon in a statement.
Positive sum play
The two giants had been engaged for a few years in a commercial and legal battle. In 2015, for example, Amazon stopped selling the Apple case for wireless communication between a computer and a TV, the Apple TV. This one, like Google's Chromecast, does not give access to Amazon's video-on-demand service.
In 2016, it was Apple who sued Amazon, denouncing the sale of counterfeit products on the platform of the giant e-commerce.
Such a partnership should in any case be profitable to both actors: Amazon has the largest marketplace in the world, when the iPhone is Apple's egg-laying hen (60% of its turnover in the fourth quarter ).
The two groups are nonetheless rivals, especially in the highly competitive area connected speakers: Echo, the device marketed by Apple, is not part of the products that will be offered on the platform of Amazon.
