Since January, at least nine inmates have committed suicide in Fleury-Mérogis prison more than in the two previous years. 4300 detainees, men and women are currently held in this large prison.
Since January 1st, 60 prisoners have committed suicide in French prisons, according to a count of the prison administration on July 23rd. In 2017, 117 suicides were counted for the year.
