  • The Girondins de Bordeaux will be sold on Tuesday to the US investment fund, GACP and King Street.
  • The negotiations were long and very complicated to the point that several times the deal almost failed.
  • The Americans wanted to withdraw after supporters' banners

Period. This Tuesday morning, the sale of Girondins de Bordeaux by M6 to US investment funds, GACP and King Street, must finally be recorded in the law firm of Paris, Winston and Strawn. The end of a (very) long process of more than a year of negotiations between all parties (M6, GACP, King Street and
Bordeaux Métropole). Tensions, exclusive discussions, call for tenders, Matmut Atlantique, financial guarantees and anecdotes … 20 minutes return to this particular sale.

Joe DaGrosa sets his sights on Bordeaux before summer 2017

The president of GACP is a man of projects. It's been a while since he's been trying to invest in sports. But, he can not aim for an American franchise, far too expensive for him. He will then seek advice from those around him. At the beginning of summer 2017, his choice is stopped: it will be Bordeaux. He entrusts the file to a certain Alain Yacine, a French-Lebanese businessman, whom he has already met in the past.

This last one in turn, Thierry Braillard, to manage this project from France. And that's good the former Secretary of State for Sports knows Nicolas de Tavernost, the chairman of the board of M6, owner of the club until Tuesday. Negotiations begin with Joe DaGrosa, who quickly confides his communication to Caroline Thiebaut in this thorny issue, expert in the field and still in charge today. All this beautiful people see each other several times before entering into exclusive discussions at the beginning of the year 2018.

King Street was not the only fund interested

It should be known that GACP is a "manager" fund, that is to say that it invests little or no but manages most of the time fund money "investor. It is for this reason that Joe DaGrosa then launched a sort of "call for tenders" in January to complete his budget. According to our information, two or three funds will respond positively including King Street. Moreover, some of its representatives will accompany the future owner of the club during his first visit to Matmut Atlantique, February 25, 2018.

"It's dead," the first hot shot

While everything is going well, the file will suffer a first hitch at the end of March. The Team reveals the internal documents of the "call for tenders. "That day, we are many to say that it's dead," says a close file. The main players in the deal are rolling up their sleeves to save it. But they must also do with the third part of this sale, Bordeaux Métropole, which begins to drag its feet: "What is this guarantee? [le loyer du Matmut Atlantique] ? It's unique in Europe? Even ask the Americans.

Tavernost is bothering with timing

For its part, Nicolas de Tavernost impatient. The chairman of M6's board initially planned to sell the club in June. But, he realizes over the weeks that it will be impossible. On the one hand, because it still has not found total agreement with GACP and King Street and secondly, because the metropolis may postpone its agreement only to back to school because of school holidays. De Tavernost hesitates a time to withdraw from the deal before finally "to maintain his confidence in the Americans" even if new offers of redemption have arrived on his desk in the meantime.

Rémi Garde, the first choice of Americans

The transfer window looks much more hot than expected with a coupling M6-GACP-King Street to decide. Everyone has their prerogatives which makes negotiations extremely difficult. The choice of the future coach after Gustavo Poyet's road trip is the perfect example. The first choice of the Americans was indeed Rémi Garde according 20 minutes. Problem, M6 puts them in front of the accomplished fact by affirming that they can make come Thierry Henry.
We know the end of the story. Joe DaGrosa and his badociates will then propose the name of Claudio Ranieri but, it is finally
Ricardo will be chosen because "it was consensus. "

DaGrosa "furious bastard" wants to leave

The last big moment of tension, and perhaps the most important one, is at the beginning of September. Beside, the postponement of the vote of the metropolis or the closing, it was nothing. "It was really hot here. Joe DaGrosa was furious when he saw the banners of the supporters [Hands Offs FCGB, argent sale ou FCGB : un monument en danger]. King Street, which is well established, has very bad experience. Some wanted to shake the case, "recalls a connoisseur of the club.

The comic moment of the Braillard law

For the record, GACP and King Street will be the first to undergo intensive control of the DNCG since the introduction of the Braillard law (this law of 1 March 2017 requires any club buyer a pbadage in front of the national control of management). And
Thierry Braillard who is none other in this file than one of the lawyers of … M6. If all parties prefer to smile today, the anecdote is worth it. "The conclusion of this sale is that despite the many obstacles, both sides have shown a strong desire to go to the end and make the deal," recognizes an important personality of French football.
