They waited for the best moment to sound the alarm. As the semi-finals and the final of the world cup loom, the delivery men of several companies like Deliveroo, Foodora or Uber eats go on strike. They demand better working conditions.
If you are used to having pizzas and other meals delivered to you in front of the World Cup games, you may be disappointed on Tuesday night, at the time of the half -final of the Blues. The bicycle deliverers of the five main delivery "platforms" (Deliveroo, Foodora, Uber eats, Stuart and Glovo) decided to go on strike to draw attention to their working conditions.
"We are sacrificing the one of the most profitable weeks of the year "
The " platform workers "Uberized" " in reference to their status as self-employed, paid for the race, have simple claims. "A guaranteed minimum hourly rate, the taking into account of the hardness of work (rain, weekend, night …), ranges of work and a guaranteed activity" exposes the communique which they published this Sunday
Delivery men are worried about the way platforms continue to recruit, leading to a drop in orders, "the only guarantors of remuneration" . The situation becomes urgent enough that they are ready to sacrifice "one of the most profitable weeks of the year (that of the last matches of the World Cup)" .
A Strike risky, since it could cost the platforms nothing if some deliverymen derogated there to take advantage of the many orders likely to arrive …
A LREM amendment in line of sight
In their release, the deliverymen are also worried about the bill "professional future" proposed by the government of Édouard Philippe and examined by the Senate on July 10. In question, in particular, "the Taché amendment" (named after Aurélien Taché, the LREM deputy who proposed it), which contributes according to the communiqué to the "perpetuation of this model .
This amendment authorizes the platforms to establish a "19459008" charter to define "its rights and obligations as well as those of the workers with whom it is in contact" . . The amendment specifies however that "The establishment of the charter and the respect of the commitments made by the platform […] can not characterize the existence of a link of legal subordination between the platform and the workers" . This would in fact prevent the requalification of the jobs of the deliverymen as employees, who are currently considered as independent.
"By instituting the principle of social charter decided unilaterally and without any counterpart of the part platforms, [ce texte] can only instill the dependence and precariousness of the workers " denounce the deliverymen.
First step for the deliverymen on strike: a gathering place of the Republic, in Paris, this Sunday to 19 pm. Before prolonging their movement during the week.
