Why is the strike still going on?
An inter-union of railway workers had launched a strike against the reform of the SNCF. The movement took place on the rhythm of "two days out of five" from April 3 to June 28, 2018. Since the law of the railway reform was promulgated June 28.
The text suppresses hiring the status of railway worker (as of January 1, 2020), transforms the SNCF into a public limited company and organizes the opening to competition (from December 2019). Points of the reform remain to be written, notably in the national collective agreement of the railway sector.
In the meantime, two unions do not disarm . A CGT-SUD strike against railway reform began Friday and continues this Saturday, on the occasion of the first major departures on summer vacation.
Attention, a new day of strike is already planned by the CGT, Thursday, July 19. This is the day that will be held the "first meeting with employers" to negotiate the collective agreement.
There will be other dates in August and "probably" in September because this movement will have "no end point until we have the guarantees that we ask from the beginning," says the CGT Cheminots for whom "the battle is far from over".
