In January 2018, it's the shock, her husband, Jonathann Daval, a 34-year-old computer scientist, confesses, after two days of media twists, he is the author of the murder. He explains that this is an accident. He is indicted for spousal murder and detained.
Six months later, he retracts and names his in-laws, including his brother-in-law Grégory Gay.
From the bereaved husband to the main suspect
During the first months after the disappearance of Alexia to Gray everyone wondered. While the emotion and the questions overwhelm the relatives, the investigators, they advance. The autopsy confirms that the young woman died asphyxiated. But elements cast doubt on the scenario told to investigators by Jonathann Daval.
- The testimony of a neighbor who heard Jonathann's car go out during the evening. The tracing device of his vehicle will confirm it. Traces of tire, corresponding to the vehicle are also found near the place where the body of the young woman was found.
- The fabric that surrounded Alexia's body corresponds to missing sheets at Daval's home.
- Jonathann Daval has traces of bites and scratches. During his first audition, he explains it and talks about a violent dispute the day before Alexia's disappearance.
Jonathann's turnaround
The turn of events occurs in July, while the family of Alexia Daval is received by the examining magistrate in Besançon, she learns that Jonathann went back on his confession. Not only does he say he did not kill Alexia, but he also refers to his brother-in-law Gregory Gay. He would be the author of the murder, during a family evening, he would have strangled Alexia, while she was having a hysteria crisis. The young woman's family then chose to shut up and hide the crime.

These statements, the in-laws of Jonathann strongly contests. Alexia's parents, but also the brother-in-law, ask to be confronted by Jonathann.
Elements still unanswered
Beyond the statements of Jonathann Daval, tracks are still to be clarified. His defense is still convinced that there is possible accomplices, that we did not know how to find.
Despite the many versions of Jonathann, there is no clear mobile that is emerging. Even the lawyer of Alexia Daval's family, Me Jean-Marc Florand speaks of many dead ends. For him, "nothing sticks to the objective reality of the file".
A release request filed by Jonathann Daval's lawyers was dismissed. The appeal will be examined on October 30, one year, to the day, after the discovery of the body of the victim. A confrontation between the two parties is envisaged.
