Festivities of 14-July. 845 cars burned, 508 kept in custody

845 cars were burned and 508 people were taken into custody during the two evenings of 13 and 14 July in France. Compared with 2017, there were fewer cars damaged but more people arrested.

A total of 845 cars were burned and 508 people were taken into custody during the two evenings of 13 and 14 July in France, announced Sunday night the Ministry of the Interior. The number of cars burned is down from last year when 897 vehicles went up in smoke. The number of detainees, however, jumped from 368 in 2017 to 508 this year, said the ministry spokesman who stressed that "no major incident was to deplore" .

"The Minister of the Interior, Gerard Collomb congratulates the mobilization of all law enforcement for these first two nights of celebration that have allowed a large number of arrests troublemakers" said to AFP, the spokesman of the Ministry of the Interior, Frédéric de Lanouvelle. "The mbadive mobilization of the police allowed to avoid any major incident" he added.

According to the balance sheet of the place Beauvau, 29 members of the forces of the order were injured during these two nights of festivities Friday and Saturday, against 21 last year. Some 110,000 police and gendarmes were mobilized for the festivities of 14-July and the final of the World Cup held this Sunday.
