Facts
Yesterday, at midday, an 81-year-old man was fatally wounded while trying to light a barbecue with gasoline in Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat. The octogenarian died from his wounds, said the gendarmes of Ariège.
By pouring gasoline on the barbecue, the liquid would have suddenly ignited and burned badly.
Despite the rapid intervention of relief, composed of firefighters and a medical team, the Saint-Paulois could not be revived.
The tragedy occurred in the hamlet of Langlade, south of the city. "He lived in the last house of the hamlet," says the mayor of the town, Michel Tartié, contacted by phone. "It was his son who discovered it by going home, at lunch time," says the mayor, for whom this sad news is a shock.
The Saint-Paulois, who had decided to make a barbecue, was alone at the time of his fatal gesture.
A belote lover
The octogenarian leaves behind three sons and a girl. "He was known in the city," breathed Michel Tartie, his voice trembling. He took care of the football club and played a lot of belote, according to the mayor. Yesterday, the emotion was lively in Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat
