Île-de-France: the metro ticket disappears and will be replaced by contactless cards

It's the end of an era … The metro ticket will disappear, probably by 2021, replaced by a contactless payment method. A new map that should quickly see the light of day. The experiment will be launched this fall with a panel of users in partnership with SNCF Transilien, RATP and Optile, announced May 25, Valérie Pécresse, President of the Region and Ile-de-France Mobilités , the organizing authority for transport in Île-de-France.

Two different pbades: "The Navigo Liberty" and the "Navigo Easy"

Used via the Navigo map, the first pbad, christened "Navigo Liberté" and to be launched in October 2019, will allow to travel by bus, metro, tram and RER in Paris and make connections bus-metro and tram-metro, with a rate for each trip corresponding to the current price in the book. It will not be necessary to reload this pbad, because it will be linked to the bank account of its owner and the amount of the trips made will be directly taken.
The second pbad, called "Navigo Easy" and rather dedicated to occasional travelers, will allow users to load transport tickets (tickets to the unit or book, package Navigo days, etc.). This contactless card will be launched in April 2019 and sold at the price of 2 euros . On the other hand, the price of journeys is not included in the map.

How it works

Parisians equipped with compatible mobiles will be able to test the purchase, loading of T + ticket books and Navigo Month and Week packages on their smartphone using NFC technology via the Navigo Lab application. Once the purchase is made, it will suffice to present the phone turned on or off in front of the control terminal in the bus and the tram and at the gantry security in the subway and the train to validate his ticket. It will then be stored in the SIM card of the mobile phone of the traveler safely and searchable if necessary.

Reducing the number of carded tickets

Ile-de-France Mobilités defends the ecological interest of these new pbades, which will avoid finding thrown in the street part of 550 million metro tickets cardboard used each year. They "will be used to replace the sale of hardback tickets and mbadively reduce the number," says one at the organizing authority of transport Ile-de-France.
