This is a new episode of violence against women in the video game. In the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, released last October 26, the players embody an American outlaw, in 1899. Developed by the studio Rockstar Games, the title offers all the leisure to wander in a huge world virtual. For the sake of realism, the developers have chosen to include women's rights activists, twenty years before the right to vote by women across the Atlantic. But some players have chosen to stage their lynching.

Among them, a youtubeur dubbed Shirrako, which has nearly 500,000 subscribers. In several videos, he broadcasts extracts of his games, during which he goes to meet a woman alongside a sign displaying a message requesting the right to vote. Among them, a sequence called "a boring feminist serves as an alligator meal", where he hits the virtual activist before bringing his body close to the animal.

More than a million views

On October 28, Shirrako released a video called "beat an annoying feminist", in which he violently strikes the same character. In a week, it was viewed by 1.2 million users on YouTube, with more than 80% positive opinions. It is punctuated with nearly 15,000 comments, in which other fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 claim to have the same motivations.

As reported by the American site Motherboard, these violent reactions could have been anticipated by the teams of Rockstar Games. To avoid further drift, the studio has chosen to make it impossible to kill a child in the world of his game. An option that has not been retained for feminist activists.

In the past, the company has already been confronted with the problem of violence against women. GTA V, one of its previous hit games, has been removed from sale in an Australian chain of stores because of the abuse of female characters, often limited to the roles of prostitutes, stipulators, or victims . For now, all of Shirrako's videos are still live on YouTube.
