Yesterday, Apple unveiled its new range of MacBook Pro 13 and 15 inches brought up to date. On the form, nothing moves but on the bottom, and therefore the technical platform, everything evolves greatly. We had fun simulating the price of several configurations on the site of the brand at the apple. As often, prices go up very quickly, especially if you want to have a large storage capacity embedded, which is one of the arguments served by the Cupertino company.
The most high-end machine, in 15 inches, costs – at most – 7959 euros and that's what you'll have under your fingers for this price:
- Intel Core i9 eight-core processor (the Core i9-8950HK) at 2.9 GHz
- 32 GB DDR4 memory clocked at 2400 MHz
- 4TB of SSD
- AMD Radeon Pro 560X in 4GB of GDDR5 (Imposed)
Note, the Intel Core i7 core present in the configuration sold from 3299 euros is the 8850H, an improved version of the very recent Intel 8750H, turbocharging at 2.6 / 4.3 GHz instead of 2.2 / 4.1 GHz.
Components charged a high price
The pbadage of Core i7 at Core i9 costs 340 euros. The price of Core i7 is $ 395 in dollars, and Core i9 is $ 583, or $ 188 delta between the two references.
We also note that Apple charges almost $ 1,000 per To SSD on the MacBook Pro 15. We would be curious to know what kind of modules the Apple brand uses. For after a quick tour on various commercial sites, 1 TB of high-end SSD format M.2 PCIe (NVMe) brand Samsung (960 or 970 PRO for example) is trading between 490 and 570 euros, and the modules 2 TB, between 800 and 1200 euros. It should be noted that, in fact, over previous generations, the speeds obtained in reading and writing with the storage modules were extremely high, exceeding 2 Gb / s.
To double the memory capacity, and thus to go from 16 to 32 GB of DDR4, you have to pay 480 euros. After some research, Crucial's 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) "special Mac" kit costs 390 euros in the trade and a single 16 GB bar, always "special Mac", costs about 195 euros.
We want believe that Apple chooses only the best components for its machines and that the cost of integration is extremely extreme to take into account … but it is also possible that the search for margin has a small influence on the price final of these machines.
