The game might seem trivial, it turned out dramatic. Buried under a meter of sand, a young man of 20 years old from Tarn-et-Garonne had to be revived by the firefighters on Wednesday, July 25 around 17:30 on the beach of Lit-et-Mixe. While he was having fun, with his friends, digging holes connected by galleries, the sand collapsed beneath him. It could not be cleared after about ten minutes by the witnesses of the scene. In the cardiorespiratory arrest, the firefighters managed to revive him but the young man was unconscious at the time of his evacuation to the hospital of Dax, and his condition is still considered critical.

"Do not dig holes"

"Do not dig holes. Even a small hole of a few dozen centimeters can be dangerous for a young individual. The dangers of landslides are important, especially with fine sand, "explained Stéphanie Geyer Barneix, Project Manager at the Landes Mixed Swimming Management Association (SMGBL) to our colleagues in Sud-Ouest. Under the sand, "there is no air bubble that is created. The buried person has blocked breathing. There is a vital risk if the person stays too long stuck.
