Marc Marquez (Spain) won the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday. Frenchman Johann Zarco finished third.
Spaniard Marc Marquez (Honda) won the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday at the Sepang circuit after taking the lead after a fall of Italian Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) four laps from the finish. His compatriot Alex Rins (Suzuki), returned in the last lap, and the Frenchman Johann Zarco (Yahama Tech3) complete the podium.
Pole in pole position after the demotion of Marquez, penalized six places on the grid for an incident in qualifying, Zarco was no longer mounted on the box since the GP of Spain in early May. This success allows the Spaniard and Honda to succeed, after the title drivers in Japan a fortnight ago, the treble in the constructors and teams.
Rossi, the most awarded driver in Malaysia with six wins (2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010), took the lead at the start, before making a mistake under pressure from Marquez behind him. Eighteenth and out of the points, he lost in the fight for the place of vice-world champion against his compatriot Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), 6th in the race, which points to 25 pitches with a round still to play , in Valencia on November 18th.
Rins and Zarco are now 5th and 6th in the drivers standings, with 149 points each. With a lead over Britain's Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda), who should still be outlawed in Spain, and five on Italian Danilo Petrucci (Ducati Pramac), the Frenchman has the advantage to retain the distinction of best driver acquired last year. Spaniards Maverick Vinales (Yamaha) and Dani Pedrosa (Honda) close the top 5.
