(Boursier.com) – Like the situation in France, growth continues to slow down in the manufacturing sector of the euro zone at the end of the 2nd quarter of 2018. The Final IHS Markit PMI Index for Manufacturing industry indeed drops to a low of 18 months in June, to 54.9 (55 in flash estimate). The index has also been steadily declining since the start of the year, as manufacturers have had to cope with simultaneous slowdowns in production growth and new orders.

Chris Williamson, Chief Business Economist at IHS Markit comments on the latest figures from the PMI survey: "The manufacturing sector in the euro area recorded its weakest expansion in eighteen months in June, the latest PMI data also highlighting the risk of further deterioration in growth in the coming months The rate of expansion of production has fallen sharply since the end of last year, a trend which has been accompanied by an even more marked slowdown in the rise in new orders In the absence of an imminent recovery in demand, manufacturers will be forced to further reduce their production volume in order to adjust it to that of order books.
