The drama was avoided this Sunday morning in the center of Marseille. Four people, including two children, were forced to jump out the window to escape the fire in their building. They had only minor injuries. The falls were dampened by mattresses on the sidewalk that had cushioned their fall, the firefighters said.

The four residents, including a 38-year-old woman and her two children aged 4 and 11, jumped from the 2nd floor of the building. "Thanks to the quick action of a witness and the police, who had mattresses on the ground to cushion their fall, the 4 occupants of the building who jumped out of their windows were only slightly injured", the firefighters explained in a statement. The fire was declared early Sunday morning in this building in the district of the Panier, close to the Old Port. The stairwell of the small building collapsed due to the fire.

During the reconnaissance, the relief took care of a 5th person poisoned by the fumes. The five wounded were transported to the hospital. The fire, extinguished around 10 am, mobilized 17 vehicles and 40 fire-fighters.
