My experience with the guaranteed internet of Bouygues Telecom: discovery, problems and things to know

[ad_1]

I was able to test "Internet Guaranteed", one of the commercial arguments put forward by Bouygues Telecom to convince new customers. Feedback

I recently moved to an apartment eligible for Bouygues Telecom's FTTH (optical fiber to the apartment) offer, and therefore took out a subscription with the operator taking advantage of a promotional offer. As this is a move, I did not have a previous access to the Internet, so I used the free Internet guaranteed option, which provides for Internet access pending the installation of the BBox This article is a return of my personal experience with Bouygues Telecom, and not an investigation. The operator did not lend material and did not participate at any time in the development of this paper, as usual with FrAndroid's editorial

What is the Internet Guaranteed? [19659005] Since April 2018, Bouygues Telecom offers with its fiber and ADSL offers a free option called "Internet Guaranteed". It allows new fixed subscribers to have access to the internet as soon as possible thanks to the loan of a 4G modem and a Bouygues Telecom mobile plan. A very good idea of the operator to improve the customer experience right from the order. This option is also valid for former subscribers in the event of a problem with their fixed line.

By scratching a bit in the pages of the Bouygues Telecom badistance, we can find a clearer definition of the offer:

  • For new subscribers

You have a 60GB Internet recharge on your Bouygues Telecom mobile plan or the loan of a 4G Key to connect your equipment (smartphone, computer, tablet) to the Internet. Thus, if you change operator or subscribe to a Bbox offer, you will always have access to the Internet.

  • For old subscribers

In case of Internet break, when you move your line or in case of incident on your line, you benefit:

  • Of continuity of Internet service: an additional Internet recharge of 60Go on your Bouygues Telecom mobile plan or the loan of a 4G key.
  • Of a continuity TV service: thanks to the B.tv application, you can access 80 channels from your smartphone, tablet or computer.
  • From a telephone service continuity: thanks to the call transfer, receive your calls from your line Bbox directly on your mobile, no extra cost.

Now let's see how it all goes in the fact

Order and delivery in 72 hours

I subscribed to the BBox offer online from the site Bouygues Teleco m on Tuesday, June 26th. In a few clicks, my order was recorded, not forgetting to check the famous Internet box guaranteed, and my appointment with a technician scheduled for Thursday, July 5, a little over a week later.

Here is the chronology of the events:

  • Wednesday, June 27: confirmation of the order BBox
  • Thursday, June 28: confirmation of the order of a key 4G
  • Friday, June 29: shipment of the key 4G
  • Saturday June 30th: delivery of the key in relay
  • Wednesday, July 4th: I recover the key at the parcel relay

We can thus note that Bouygues was very reactive from the moment of the subscription: from the order to the delivery of the 4G key to the parcel relay, it has only been 4 days.

Huawei Mobile WiFi 4G LTE Roller

The modem is the E5573B model of the Huawei brand. Fortunately, this is not a simple 4G USB key, but a much more practical tool. This small box is equipped with a 4G LTE category 4 modem, with a conventional SIM port that we are more used to seeing in 2018, and will create an 802.11n Wi-Fi network. Up to 10 devices can be connected to it simultaneously. Only desktop computers are left on the sidelines, being generally devoid of Wi-Fi.

The configuration is very simple: just put the card Bouygues SIM in the device and connect to the Wi-Fi network shown behind the battery cover. The SIM card was activated automatically, so there were no additional steps to take advantage of Internet access.

As long as we are around the 4G modem, note that it works on battery, since it is originally a product provided by Huawei as being mobile. I imagine that it is a simpler solution to implement for Bouygues, and less expensive in transport costs than sending a Box 4G for example. Be aware that the autonomy of this type of device is only a few hours, especially when you consume bandwidth. It must therefore leave the box connected permanently; Fortunately a simple micro USB charger is enough.

60 GB is quickly consumed on a home connection

As Bouygues Telecom says in the short lines of its offer, Guaranteed Internet is actually a mobile plan limited to 60 GB of consumption. Which is a huge envelope for connecting a smartphone is actually very little for home use access by multiple devices.

I recovered and activated the guaranteed Internet connection on July 4th. I then consumed my connection fairly conventional way, without really limiting myself, but taking into account that some devices (still in the boxes) were not connected. Unfortunately, the appointment with the technician went wrong, and without going into details, the installation of the connection could not be done. This problem comes from housing, and no technician from a competing operator could solve it. So I remained dependent on the 4G connection longer than expected

The 60 GB quota was spent in a few days

In just over a week, Friday, July 13, I managed to empty the quota of 60 GB. Impossible to know in detail who were responsible for this consumption. Overall, my use of the connection was summed up to a lot of surfing, live TV on Molotov, a little of binge-watching on Netflix, and probably some downloads of updates. day (Firefox, Windows, Shield TV, etc.) in the background. When the package reaches its quota, the connection is severely restricted to the point of becoming unusable, a fairly simple page like Qwant.com then takes several minutes to load.

Good to know: free refills on demand

Fortunately, Bouygues Telecom seems to have anticipated this kind of inconvenience, and allows to charge the package for free with a new quota of 60 GB on request. The operator does not really put forward this possibility. When I reached the quota the first time, no message warned me of this fact, and I was never asked to ask for a refill.

A quick exchange on Twitter and lo and behold, I had the right to my new quota. I took the opportunity to ask what exactly were the limits of this service, the answer is clear: 5 refills maximum can be performed by the operator's customer service.

maximum 5 hoping that your services are restored before the next installation of recharging

A contract well filled

Waiting to have a connection Fixed unlimited, we can say that the guaranteed Internet Bouygues has fulfilled its part of the contract. Of course, I would have liked to be warned of the end of the quota and the possibility of reloading the package for free, this could also be done automatically or in a simpler way from the operator's customer area. Still, with this proposal, the operator has the good idea to use one of its strengths, its mobile network, wisely.

The key package 4G Bouygues Telecom with 60 GB quota, equivalent so that offers the Internet option guaranteed, is charged 42.99 euros per month by the operator on his shop, a price quite overvalued when compared to the smartphone package market. On the phone, Bouygues' customer service told me that I would not be charged by the operator until my BBox line was activated. In fact, as long as my line is not activated, the operator offers me a package worth 42.99 euros per month, which I have already been able to recharge with a new quota of 60 GB.

I come out of this experience by being quite satisfied by the guaranteed Internet of Bouygues Telecom. This option makes it possible to obtain access to the Internet while waiting for the resolution of a fault or the installation of a new fixed line. Only the slight downside about the quota of 60 GB and the lack of automatic recharge in my case. That remains little compared to the free service provided.
