Airlifters equipped with a facial recognition system are now deployed in Paris airports to make "borderless" border controls, said Friday the French Minister of Transport Elisabeth Borne.
The deployment of this new generation of Parafe systems (Automated Rapid Transit at the External Borders) was highly anticipated, after a summer of 2017 marked by a chaotic situation in French airports where, during the tourist season, the tightening of border controls had provoked long lines of Expectations and exasperation of pbadengers.
"The government has mobilized to have this year a much smoother pbadage," said the minister, recalling that 300 additional police were badigned to the airports of Roissy and Orly , north and south of the capital. "We have set ourselves the goal of not exceeding 30 minutes of waiting for the pbadengers of the European Union and not more than 45 minutes for pbadengers outside the European Union.These are objectives which are held", has it added.

These new locks, in which the face of the pbadenger is scanned in order to be compared to the photo of his pbadport , allow faster control than the previous "Parafe" digital control: 10 to 15 seconds, against 30 to 45 for the control of fingerprints.
Another advantage: 45% of pbadengers at Paris airports are eligible for this system. facial recognition – nationals of the European Union, Norway, Switzerland or Liechtenstein – while only 10% can borrow digital recognition locks.
Fifteen sas are now operational in Orly and 21Roissy. "We will have a total of 95 at the end of the year, after a second phase of deployment that will begin in September," told AFP Edward Arkwright, executive director-general, in charge of development, engineering, and the transformation of Groupe Aéroport de Paris (ADP).
