Police officers were targeted by gunfire on Tuesday, July 17, at the Gely city in Montpellier (Hérault), reports France Bleu Hérault. The BAC police officers were involved in a narcotics case when they were targeted by an individual in the city.
The gunman was armed with an automatic pistol. A police officer was slightly injured by a flash coming from one of the shots. About twenty sockets were found on the spot.
The men of the BRI, the Brigade for Research and Intervention, arrived at the scene an hour after the shots, in order to find the gunman. A hundred police in total have cordoned off the neighborhood for more than two hours. The police device was lifted in the early evening. The shooter was not arrested.
In a statement released Tuesday night, the union Alliance National Police denounces the crossing of a "new level in the violence against police in Montpellier". The union also mentions "a real attempt at badbadination" and asks "the greatest firmness against the perpetrator of this criminal act".
